New Age “Worship”

Hymns at a Funeral

I was at my great uncle’s funeral when we were asked to sing, “It is well”. This hymnal immediately brought me back to my youth when we constantly sung hymns out of the hymnal every Sunday morning. The new age worship has invaded main street as hymns are being killed off for a younger, hipper worship music.

But is this new age worship okay… or biblical?

Hymns usually contain verses or passages within the Bible. These hymns do not need music to make them more spiritual. These hymns do not need fog or dimmed lights to bring out their true meaning.

Yes, hymns actually come from the Inspired Word of God.

It is Well with my Soul

Take “It is Well” for a great example:

1 When peace like a river attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
“It is well, it is well with my soul.”

Refrain (may be sung after final stanza only):
It is well with my soul;
it is well, it is well with my soul.

2 Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
let this blest assurance control:
that Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
and has shed his own blood for my soul. Refrain

3 My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
my sin, not in part, but the whole,
is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more;
praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! Refrain

4 O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend;
even so, it is well with my soul. Refrain

Psalter Hymnal, (Gray) http://www.hymnary.org/text/when_peace_like_a_river_attendeth_my_way

The worship section of our Sunday service used to ACTUALLY BE WORSHIP. Today’s worship music has turned into a pseudo-intimate love song portrayed at Christ. It is “me” centered instead of focusing on Christ and Christ alone.

Reckless Love

Lets compare “It is Well with my Soul” with “Reckless Love”

[Verse 1]
Before I spoke a word
You were singing over me
You have been so, so
Good to me
Before I took a breath
You breathed Your life in me
You have been so, so
Kind to me

[Chorus]
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn’t earn it
I don’t deserve it
Still You give yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

[Verse 2]
When I was your foe, still Your love fought for me
You have been so, so
Good to me
When I felt no worth
You paid it all for me
You have been so, so
Kind to me

[Bridge]
There’s no shadow You won’t light up
Mountain You won’t climb up
Coming after me

There’s no wall You won’t kick down
No lie You won’t tear down
Coming after me

Paul Washer

Paul Washer Almost Abducted

Do you Know Brother Paul Washer?

Brother Paul Washer is one of the most influential evangelists on earth today. His consistent voice of truth has made him one of my favorite pastors. I, of course, was turned on to him by Todd Friel at Wretched Radio. Brother Paul is a strong Calvinist and evangelist, spreading the news of Jesus Christ our Savior all across the world. This notion alone debunks the claim that Calvinists do not believe in witnessing.

The video from Wretched Radio is Paul Washer explaining how he was almost abducted in Peru. This story alone shows that the Holy Spirit is alive and well within Paul Washer. Even in dark times, Paul looks onto the Lord for strength and might.

Attempted Abduction!

He begins the video discussing the moments that led up to the attempted abduction. He stopped at a store in Peru to purchase some Bibles. When he left the store the local police told him that his car was illegal.

Paul was met by the policeman in the car and was berated with screaming and yelling. Then, Paul tells us that the policeman called some of the other cops to meet them at the place that Paul was driving to.

While the man was screaming, Paul was calm as he was praying to God. The man confronted Paul, asking why he was so calm. Paul then responded, telling the man that he was afraid. This made the man prideful.

But Paul was not afraid of him.

The Promise of God’s Wrath!

Paul went on to explain that he was afraid for the man as God’s wrath was going to kill him. He told the man that when he dies, which could be any minute, God would certainly send him to hell.

The man was so afraid and was so distraught that he let Paul go. He kept begging Paul to pray for him! Even in the heat of an abduction Paul was witnessing!

God bless brother Paul and all that he does to bring the Word of God to every corner of this world.

Facebook Stock Plunge and Beginning 1 John 5!

[buzzsprout episode=’760832′ player=’true’]

Facebook Takes a Dive!

Hello and welcome to the podcast! Today we begin by discussing the Facebook stock plunge. Why did it take this instance to make it plunge? Are we addicted to social media? How is it affecting our overall health?

Mark Zuckerberg lost over 16 billion dollars in five minutes. After a lousy profit projection, Wall Street then goes into a frenzy trading their Facebook stocks. At one point today the Facebook drop was over 20%!

After our 1 John Study?

After we discuss the Facebook plunge we begin our study in 1 John 5. This chapter is the final chapter of our 1 John study. After this study we will then begin studying the age of the earth and giving context to all arguments. Before we begin this study I need to make it well known that I am a young earth believer. I believe that we live on an earth that God created in six days and it is under 10,000 years old. I have been fully indoctrinated by ken hammKen Ham’s Answers in Genesis!

1 John 5:1-4 Study

While discussing 1 John 5:1-4 I go on a rant about His commandments not being burdensome. As always, I then dive into my life as a false convert and how His commandments felt burdensome.

But are His commandments really burdensome? No.

In fact, the life of un repenting sin is burdensome. Constantly searching for the next high, the next paycheck, the next lust. The lusting of the flesh and the wallet only leads to destruction and a false happiness.

Only trusting in Jesus Christ and keeping his commandments will we find peace. Focusing on living for Him and His Will alone is not burdensome. In fact, it is the exact opposite.

As we see in 1 John 5:4, our faith is the victor over the world! We have found victory in our faith that overcomes the entire world!

‘For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith. ‘ – 1 John 5:4

God bless!

“Christians” and Game of Thrones

Watching Game of Thrones

I was recently at a family gathering and “the guys” were sitting at our own table. As we were discussing games that we play on xbox one they started talking about Game of Thrones. My cousin has watched the entire series – twice! That number staggered me. I have never turned on Game of Thrones and I never intend to. To go into a deeper dive into the state of Christian men, or Christian sissy boys, click on those links.

There is a certain standard we need to hold ourselves as Christians. When we say that we are “not of the world”, that saying goes for more than just believing in Christ. We are not supposed to be OF THE WORLD.

False Teachers

Pastors such as Carl Lentz and Steven Furtick will tell you otherwise. They say that we need to, “invade the culture, become one with the culture” to bring people to Jesus. That – of course – is gibberish.

‘”If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you. ‘ – John 15:18-19

furtick2These verses are a good gauge of our spirituality. If you are hated by the world, chances are that you are one with God. If the world accepts you as its own, then you are playing in muddy water.

Furtick and Lentz lead churches that are of the world. The world loves them because that brand of Christianity is “of the world”. It is watered down to the point to where coming to Christ is nothing more than a chance for Instagram likes.

Of the World

game of thronesIf you spend your free time watching Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy, Westworld, The Wire, etc., you are committing a great sin. We are not supposed to be of the world, but a representative of Jesus Christ. If we spend our time in the world we are representing a false Jesus and will lead people astray.

‘You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved. ‘ Matthew 10:22

The world hating you is a great responsibility. To endure this hatred to the end will save us.

God is great and His Promises are great. To stand against the world will take great sacrifice, but it is worth the eternal salvation we can look forward to.

God bless

Can We Find Comfort With Decree of Election?

[buzzsprout episode=’758820′ player=’true’]

On the podcast today I am discussing the recent revelation regarding my grandfather and his lifestyle. He was a “functional” alcoholic. This statement hit me like a sack of potatoes as I was sitting with my mother. This man that I had looked up to for so long was battling a personal demon that no one knew about. The destructive lifestyle permeated all aspects of our family and we had not a clue. Can I find comfort in the Decree of Election?

‘When the righteous triumph, there is great glory, But when the wicked rise, men hide themselves. He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion.’ – Proverbs 28:12-13

My grandfather hid this sin for the entire time that I was alive. What do I do with this newfound information? How do I find comfort in being one of the elect, even if my grandfather might not be among us?

‘Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, ‘ – Colossians 3:5-6

I take comfort in the fact that he regularly attended church. Although this does not guarantee your salvation, it does give me hope that he knew the Truth. I pray that he repented of his sin before his death and that he trusted Jesus in helping him break free.

‘Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; ‘ – Acts 3:19

In today’s podcast we are continuing our discussion on the decree of election. We are reading out of Dr. John MacArthur’s Biblical Doctrine book. Today we are reading from pg 494-496. If you want to listen to our previous decree of election podcast, click here.
